How to Properly Take Care of Your Lawn

Mowing a lawn is an essential part of maintaining a healthy and attractive yard. It is important to properly mow your lawn to keep it looking its best and to encourage healthy grass growth. Here are some tips for mowing your lawn:

  1. Use the right mower for your lawn size and grass type. A small lawn can be mowed with a manual push mower, while a larger lawn may require a riding mower. Be sure to choose a mower with the appropriate blade size and power for your grass type.

  2. Keep your mower blades sharp. Dull blades can tear and damage the grass, leading to a rough, uneven cut and potentially causing the grass to become diseased. Sharpen your mower blades at least once a year, or more often if you use your mower frequently. Here at Paul's Pristine Lawn and Lights, we offer mower blade sharpening, so the do-it-yourself-ers can have nice, sharp blades as well.

  3. Mow at the right height. The general rule of thumb is to mow your grass to a height of about two-thirds of the recommended mowing height for your grass type. For example, if the recommended mowing height for your grass is 3 inches, mow it to a height of 2 inches. Mowing your grass too short can damage it and make it more susceptible to pests and disease.

  4. Mow in the right direction. When mowing your lawn, try to mow in a different direction each time. This helps to prevent the grass from leaning in one direction and encourages it to grow evenly.

  5. Leave the clippings on the lawn. After mowing, the grass clippings can be left on the lawn as a natural fertilizer. This is known as "grasscycling" and can help to provide nutrients back to the soil and improve the health of your lawn.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your lawn is properly mowed and stays healthy and attractive. If you would like all of this, but with out having to lift a finger, contact us today!
